A number of EU states have expressed a desire to support the United States and expand the organization's sanctions list against the Russian Federation. Most of the member states of the European Union propose to introduce restrictive measures against Russian citizens involved in cyberattacks through SolarWinds. TASS agency announced on the night of Friday, April 16, citing a source in Brussels. "After the latest package of US sanctions publication, the EU allows introducing limited sanctions against Russian citizens responsible for cyber-attacks," the newspaper informed. The EU cited two reasons for this decision: solidarity with Washington and the fact that the cyberattack through the SolarWinds software " affected European countries as well." "A number of community states are preparing proposals on the list of persons against whom individual prohibitive measures can be introduced within the framework of the European mechanism for sanctions for cyberattacks," TASS informed. At the same time, the interlocutor of the agency did not specify how likely it is that the proposals on sanctions of the EU member states will be approved by the organization. Recall, on the eve President of the United States Joe Biden signed a decree on new sanctions against Russia, which are addressed against 16 organizations and 16 individuals of the Russian Federation for meddling in the US elections and cyberattacks through SolarWinds. The European Union and NATO supported the corresponding Washington’s step.
