More polling stations will be opened for the diaspora in early parliamentary elections compared to last year's presidential elections.
This confirmed the chairman of the Central Election Commission Doreen Cimil. The Head of the CEC says that the figure in 190 polling stations is being considered, but the final decision on this issue will be made on June 5,
ipn.md reported.
According to the official, the experience of last year's presidential elections shows that there is an increased interest on the part of our compatriots from the diaspora to participate in the elections, but the decision on the number of polling stations will be made in strict accordance with the provisions of the Election Code.
“We will take as a basis the three criteria specified in the Election Code. We are talking about the number of pre-registered voters, the number of voters who took part in the last national elections - the data we already have, and the third criterion is the official number of Moldovan citizens in the countries of residence,”Dorin Cimil said during the program“ Moldova on direct ”On the public TV channel.
According to the head of the CEC, after discussions with the ambassadors of our country abroad, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration came up with a proposal to increase the number of polling stations for the diaspora.
“The figure proposed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is approximate, and we are talking about 190 polling stations, compared to 139 opened in the last elections. We also have other proposals from civil society. We will consider all proposals and offer our own draft solution. In cities where a large number of voters were registered in the presidential elections, we will open additional polling stations to ensure everyone has the right to vote,” added Doreen Cimil.
During last year's presidential elections, 139 polling stations were opened for our citizens in 36 countries of the world. The maximum number of ballots assigned to each precinct was 5,000 ballots. According to the CEC, 260 thousand citizens of the Republic of Moldova voted outside the country during the second round of elections.
