The new Prime Minister of Moldova said that the support of the European Union is extremely important for her country to strengthen democratic processes, restore the economy and create jobs.
Natalia Gavrilita, who took office in August, met with the EU leadership. She told Euronews that Chisinau intends to pursue economic reforms, various liberalizations and the fight against corruption more vigorously, not in order to please Brussels, but because this is what her voters demand.
“The citizens of Moldova are tired of governments that lie, of politicians who steal, of public services that do not work for people, of decisions that neglect public interests. During the parliamentary elections, they said they wanted a government they could trust. For the government, this means making decisions every day, keeping in mind the public benefit, and not the benefit of the few,” the prime minister said.
Natalia Gavrilita also informed that her government wants to make the reforms irreversible and open the economy to foreign investment: “Over 30 years of instability and rampant corruption, the business sector has also been corrupted by vested interests. We strive to dramatically reduce barriers to entry. We want to demonopolize the fields,” the head of the Moldovan Cabinet said.
The Prime Minister told Euronews that effective governance and the fight against corruption will make Moldova more attractive and will contribute to the reintegration of the breakaway Pridnestrovie. Gavrilita expressed hope for further dialogue with the EU on security, justice and energy issues.
