Moldovan President Maia Sandu commented for the first time on the signing of the contract with Gazprom and said that gas, as before, will flow through Ukraine. In an interview with the Russian newspaper Kommersant, the President of the Republic Maia Sandu said that she was satisfied with the agreements with Gazprom “We are pleased that this contract has been agreed and signed. The biggest problem, of course, is the price, because our side wanted to get a price that we can pay, that our and our enterprises people can afford to pay. The competitiveness of our enterprises depends on the price of gas, and the most serious issue was the question of price. There was another one – these are debts. Regarding the debts, it was decided that there will be an audit and after it the conversation about the restructuring of Moldovagaz’s debts to Gazprom will continue”, Sandu stated. “We will have gas after November 1. And this is already very good. There is a price that suggests that the government or the regulator should raise gas tariffs. There will be an increase in tariffs, but at the same time this increase is not as big as it would be if we bought today, because we all know that today’s prices are very, very high”, the Moldovan president said.
