Olesea Stamate admitted that she was wrong. The Parliamentary Commission on Legal Issues President agreed that the Cabinet of Ministers hastily adopted amendments to the Law on the Prosecutor’s Office. She noted that a draft will be developed indicating clear criteria for evaluating the activities of the Prosecutor General. Stamate came to conclusions about this necessity after criticism from the Venice Commission. The statements were made on the program “In the spotlight”, reports publika.md “The assessment of the Venice Commission is not negative to begin with. It is what it is. I think that first of all we should introduce evaluation criteria into the law,” Stamate said. She agreed with the objections of the Venice Commission that the whole process of adopting the initiative was not transparent enough. “I must agree with the Venice Commission in this sense and, basically, I think that we need to slowly return to the normal pace of passing laws,” Stamate concluded. On the other hand, former Ministry of Justice Secretary of State Nicolae Esanu believes that the comments of the Venice Commission were much more extensive: “There is criticism at every stage. How it starts, how the commission is drawn up, according to what criteria it operates. If our current majority were wise enough, they would slow down with the prosecutor’s evaluation.” Esanu added that the situation is being closely monitored by diplomatic missions in our country: “The reaction to the conclusion of the Venice Commission will be a test for the government to what extent the declarations and actions correspond. Unfortunately, I see that the chances of not failing the test are very small. I have met with several ambassadors, some of them are shocked.” The deputy of the Bloc of Communists and Socialists Vasile Bolea said during the broadcast that he expects the reaction of diplomatic missions and the Constitutional Court to the Venice Commission’s criticism: “There is a principle: “Silence implies consent, but I think this is not the case on the part of the ambassadors. It just might be a little culture shock. The task of this law, which was proposed by the authorities, is usurpation of the Prosecutor General’s Office, usurpation in the Council of Prosecutors.” Point
