Last week, Russia published proposals on security guarantees and is waiting for a response from the United States and NATO. Russia has not yet received a response from the United States on the proposals for security guarantees, said on Monday, December 20, the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov, writes TASS. “It's too early to evaluate yet. We have heard the words, but with reference to different sources, about the willingness to discuss, and this is probably a positive factor. But there is no substantive answer yet, so it is premature to assess,” he said. Peskov also said that the Kremlin is considering various options for possible retaliatory steps in the event of the deployment of NATO weapons near the borders of the Russian Federation. “It’s no secret that, of course, the deployment of various types of [NATO] weapons near our borders, which may pose a threat to us, will require taking appropriate steps in order to balance the situation. A variety of options are possible here,” he said. Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry published drafts of the treaty on security guarantees and the agreement on measures to ensure the security of the Russian Federation and NATO member states.
