Potential accession of Moldova to the European Union will be perceived by Russia as a loss of control over its former territories. This is the opinion of Vlad Kulminski.
“Of course, Moscow will see it as a possible loss of control over its former provinces. From the geopolitical point of view, this will be seen in this way,” Kulminski said on the air of the Alternative program on TV8, tv8.md reports.
At the same time, he suggested that in the current circumstances, the Kremlin will not apply harsh measures against our country because of the granting of candidate status to the European Union.
“I do not see the possibility and the need to punish Moldova for this. This is a long-term process, which is likely to stretch over a period of time. We are probably talking about decades,” Kulminski said.
At the same time, he noted that Moldova with the EU candidate status has a unique chance to determine its future.
“In fact, during these 30 years Moldova was turned into a gray zone – it was also called a captured state, where no rules worked. There were certain shady interests, which were engaged in banal pumping money out of this country. (...). Now the status of an EU candidate allows Moldova to set a certain direction of movement,” Kulminski stressed.
