UN Secretary-General calls any attack on a nuclear power plant “suicidal” UN Secretary-General António Guterres says Monday that the risk of nuclear confrontation has returned after several decades and calls on the nuclear powers to pledge not to use such weapons first. Any attack on a nuclear power plant is “suicidal”, Guterres said, reacting to reports of renewed Russian shelling of Europe’s largest nuclear power plant, the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant in Ukraine. Guterres said this at a news conference in Tokyo on attending Saturday’s ceremony at the Peace Memorial Park in Hiroshima to mark the 77th year of the world’s first atomic bombing. He also called on Japan to stop public and private financing of coal projects as part of the country’s commitment to reduce emissions from fossil fuels. Голос Америки
