The Ukrainian people are defending their country's sovereignty and fighting for freedom, democracy, the rule of law and European values, the European Parliament said. Zelensky spoke by video link at the ceremony. The European Parliament awarded the 2022 Andrei Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought to the Ukrainian people. On Wednesday, December 14, at the ceremony in Strasbourg, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made a video address. The audience observed a moment of silence in memory of the Ukrainians who died in the war unleashed by Russia against Ukraine. The monetary part of the award is 50 thousand euros and is given to the Ukrainian people represented by Volodymyr Zelensky and other elected representatives as well as civil society.
