Political observer Viktor Nikitush believes that Moldova is very far from meeting the Copenhagen criteria for accession to the European Union. “Let’s be fully honest and say that it is not the merit of Moldova or of Moldovan politicians that the Moldovan state got the status of a candidate country for the European Union. Neither Ukraine nor the Republic of Moldova even remotely met the Copenhagen criteria,” said Viktor Nikitush, quoted by realitatea.md. The political analyst stressed that the country has many unresolved problems in the socio-economic sphere, as well as with regard to the media. “Let’s make a map of access to water and sewage in Moldovan villages, or a map of press freedom in Moldova, or how the authorities are involved in restricting the press,” said the journalist. At the same time, he believes that “the authorities come to the European structures begging.” “I can only congratulate the Moldovan government and the Moldovan leadership when they tell tales and when they walk around with their hands out in European structures,” said the guest of the show.
