An operational group of Russian troops in the Transdniestrian region may be an irritant but by no means a military threat to Kyiv. This was stated by Alexandru Flenchea, the head of the Moldovan delegation to the Joint Control Commission (JCC), on air of TV8, Rupor.md reports. “The very fact of Russia’s military presence near the Ukrainian border, in the rear, is an irritant to Kyiv, but no more than that. There is no military potential there, neither in terms of military equipment, nor in terms of weaponry, training, number of personnel, to pose a threat to Ukraine. It is an irritant because there are servicemen and military equipment of the opposite warring party,” Flenchea said. He also noted that Russian peacekeepers in Transdniestria are “a security challenge for Moldova because military potentials are comparable”. Earlier Kyiv repeatedly declared about the threat from Transdniestria. In particular, an invasion of Ukrainian territory by the Russian contingent was not ruled out.
