The United States “condemns in the strongest terms the detrimental activities of Russia in the Republic of Moldova and demands the withdrawal of the troops illegally deployed in the Transdniestrian region.” The statements are contained in a resolution adopted by the U.S. House of Representatives, deschide.md reported. In the same document, the United States reaffirmed its support for Moldova in the face of malign influence and Russian military aggression and called on Chisinau to continue on the path of democracy and fight corruption. “We support the aspirations of Moldovan citizens to join the EU and ask the European Union to continue to advance the process of joining the community bloc in order to ensure the country’s national and economic security. We call on the Biden Administration to work with our transatlantic partners to take further action against any individuals or groups undermining democracy in Moldova. We condemn in the strongest terms Russia’s malevolent activities in the Republic of Moldova,” the House resolution said. The U.S. lawmakers also expressed support for the development of the strategic dialogue between the U.S. and Moldova and noted that it is in the interests of the U.S. and its allies to support democracy, energy security and economic growth in Moldova to ensure security and prosperity in Europe and the world. On the Transdniestrian issue, the members of the House of Representatives called for the withdrawal of the Russian troops illegally deployed to the region and reiterated their support for resolving the conflict through an OSCE-led negotiation process that would ensure a special status for the Transdniestrian region within Moldova’s internationally recognized borders.
