The head of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office Veronica Dragalin commented on the progress in the case against Vladimir Plahotniuc. The prosecutor noted that the referral of the case to the court is delayed. The statements were made during the broadcast on JurnalTV. “The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office has not forgotten Plahotniuc, I assure you. What I can tell you is that we have completed a criminal investigation into one of the episodes in which he is accused. The damage is 40 million euros. In order for us to complete the case in his absence, the prosecutor had to prove that we complied with the requirements of the new law. We have no confirmation of this man’s whereabouts from the official replies, so the law allows us to proceed without him because we can’t establish his whereabouts. Back in August, we filed a motion to send the case to court in his absence. However, the law allows attorneys to use various ways to postpone court hearings. We see that defense lawyers use the same tactics over and over again. The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office has taken the initiative, proposing to change the law to ensure that it is not abused. We look forward to the final decision so that we can send the case to court,” Veronica Dragalin said.
