Finland on Moldova’s EU integration: Northern Macedonia and Albania First

Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto says the EU will only consider the accession applications of Ukraine and Moldova after Albania and North Macedonia join the big European family. The statement was made in an interview with Funke. “It is very important to treat EU accession applications equally. I am concerned about developments in the Western Balkan countries,” rupor.md quoted the minister as saying, citing tass.ru “Northern Macedonia and Albania have been waiting for a very long time to join the European Union,” he said. The Republic of Moldova applied for EU membership in March 2022 and was granted candidate country status in June 2022.
