Munteanu: As Long as Stoianoglo’s Status Is Not Clear, We Cannot Elect Another Prosecutor General

Munteanu explained to the Press Club of Journalists that until the status of Alexandr Stoianoglo is resolved, it is impossible to hold a new contest. “He is a current prosecutor who does not perform his duties for various reasons, including a pending criminal case. Till the issue of the Prosecutor’s General status is resolved, I do not see a possibility of announcing a contest for the same position. To put it simply, the current Prosecutor General should either be forced to resign, or should resign, or possibly be banned from holding state and public posts,” Ion Munteanu said. Munteanu stressed that there is no timeframe for holding the position of acting Prosecutor General. Recall, Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo was dismissed from his position on charges of illegal enrichment. On 5 October 2021, Stoianoglo was detained in the building of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
