The Supreme Council of Magistracy (SCM) rejected on Wednesday the candidatures of five judges who had applied for vacant posts in the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ). All of them applied for the posts through a temporary transfer from other instances.
All judges have various kinds of claims from prosecutors or colleagues from the SCM Disciplinary Commission. Thus, Elvira Lavciuc from Orhei has come to the Commission’s attention several times, but each time no penalties were imposed. Stelian Teleucă from the Chisinau Court of Appeal was one of the judges who considered the case of Ilan Șor and the magistrate asked not to include him in the panel.
Andrei Guțu from Balți told journalists that he saw no point in an external court evaluation for incorruptibility. Ghenadie Comerzan released from custody the pimp Alexandru Covali (known as the recidivist “varmint”) for “good behavior”. Chisinau court judge Dorin Munteanu was a defendant in a criminal case.
The SCM repeatedly announced the contest for the SCJ positions.
