Anatol Munteanu, executive director of the Transportatorul Employers’ Association, said that the passenger transport activity might be suspended until the end of the year. “There are no other options. We have only one way out - to stop altogether! We do not exclude that by New Year’s Eve, transportation in Moldova will be stopped. 80 per cent of the proposals were developed by carriers, while what Spînu put forward are just schemes,” ziua.md quotes Munteanu. Carriers are challenging the amendments draft to the road legislation proposed by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development, adopted on 8 November by the government, which they consider contrary to European norms. Munteanu criticized, among other things, the abolition of time limits at both the level of international transport and the reduction of the interval to 15 minutes for routes at the national level. “The changes now being proposed will result in 80 per cent of the routes ceasing to be served without our will. There will be no point. All carriers are ready to stop. 90-95 per cent of the country’s carriers are participating in the protest action. Absolutely everyone supports us,” Munteanu concluded.
