Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky gave a reserved assessment of the Ukrainian counter-offensive’s results. In an interview with the Associated Press, he said that the war with Russia had moved to a new stage, the BBC reports.
“We are not retreating, I am satisfied. We are fighting the second strongest army in the world, I am satisfied. We are losing people, I am not satisfied. We did not get all the weapons we wanted, I cannot be satisfied, but I cannot complain too much either. We wanted faster results. From this point of view, unfortunately, we did not get the results we wanted. And this is a fact,” Zelensky said.
According to him, Ukraine did not receive all the necessary weapons from its allies, and the limited number of the Armed Forces did not allow it to move forward quickly.
“There is not enough strength to achieve the desired results faster. However, that does not mean we should give up. We are confident in what we are doing. We are fighting for what belongs to us,” Zelensky emphasized.
Given the constant shortage of arms and ammunition, the Ukrainian president considers increasing domestic arms production to be the most important next step for Ukraine.
Ukraine armed forces launched a counter-offensive in the summer of 2023.
