American television host Tucker Carlson confirmed that he had arrived to Moscow to interview Russian President Vladimir Putin. The journalist said this on his page on the social network X (former Twitter). The Kremlin confirmed this information. According to Peskov, Putin agreed to give an interview to Carlson because “his position is different from the rest”.
“We are in Moscow tonight. We’re here to interview the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin. We’ll be doing that soon,” Carlson said.
In a published video, Carlson said he decided to talk to the Russian president because most Americans don’t know what “is really going on in Russia and Ukraine.”
Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Vladimir Putin had given an interview to American television host Tucker Carlson.
“His position is different from the rest [of the Western media]. It is in no way pro-Russian, it is not pro-Ukrainian, it is rather pro-American, but at least diverges from the position of traditional Anglo-Saxon media,” Peskov said, according to Interfax.
Carlson described the war in Ukraine as a disaster that has left hundreds of thousands of people dead. At the same time, the TV host added that the long-term effects of the war would be even more significant.
Carlson also stated that the interviews with Volodymyr Zelensky, which were conducted by Western media, were more like pep sessions.
“That is not journalism. It is government propaganda,” the TV presenter said.
According to Carlson, the Biden administration tried to prevent him from interviewing Putin a few years ago.
Tucker Carlson has repeatedly spoken sympathetically about the Russian president. His political views are shared by many conservative Americans dissatisfied with American support for Ukraine.
According to Carlson, the interview will be broadcasted in unedited form on his website and later on social network X.
