The chairman of the legislative assembly, Igor Grosu, said on Friday, 19 April, that the draft law on the referendum was registered in parliament. “Yesterday, the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) registered a draft parliamentary decision on holding a republican constitutional referendum after the Constitutional Court had provided a positive opinion on 16 April on the PAS MPs’ initiative to revise the Constitution through a referendum. Thus, according to the draft law, the referendum should be held on 20 October 2024, and citizens will answer the question ‘Are you in favor of Moldova’s accession to the European Union?’,” Igor Grosu said, as quoted by zdg.md. The Speaker of the Legislative Assembly said that Parliament is now preparing all necessary steps to set the date of the referendum and presidential election for 20 October 2024. “After voting on the draft, it will be forwarded to the Central Election Commission to initiate the procedure of holding a republican referendum in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Code,” Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu told a press conference.
