British Foreign Secretary David Cameron said during an unannounced visit to Kyiv that Ukraine has the right to use the weapons provided by London to strike targets on Russian territory. He told this in an interview with the Reuters news agency. According to the British minister, it is up to Kyiv to decide whether to use the weapons to strike Russian territory. “Ukraine has that right. Just as Russia is striking inside Ukraine, you can understand why Ukraine feels the need to make sure it defends itself,” Cameron told the agency outside St. Michael’s Cathedral. This is the first public recognition of Ukraine’s right to use British weapons to strike deep into Russia by a top UK official. Cameron met with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba and President Volodymyr Zelensky during his second visit to Kyiv as foreign minister, the agency said. The visit was not publicly reported, nor were Cameron’s meetings with Kuleba and Zelensky. Recently, the newly appointed Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braze said that Ukraine had received Western weapons from some partners with permission to hit Russian territory. She did not specify which countries she was referring to. The UK supplied Ukraine with Storm Shadow cruise missiles with a range of more than 250 kilometers. Ukraine started using them last spring.
