The Hungarian authorities believe that the country’s role as a mediator in Russia’s war against Ukraine should not be underestimated. After his visits to Ukraine, Russia and China, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban briefed European Union leaders on the results of his “peacekeeping mission” and Budapest’s “peace” proposals. Balazs Orban, political director of the Hungarian prime minister, said this in an interview with Magyar Nemzet. Orban’s plan was sent to every EU leader, he said. Balazs Orban said that the Hungarian prime minister’s trips to Kyiv and Moscow made it clear that “Ukraine and Russia are very determined to fight”. “And without the intervention of external mediators, unfortunately, we will see very brutal destruction in the coming months,” he said. After that, Orban said, Hungary began negotiations with potential mediators: China, Turkey and Donald Trump. “But the Europeans and the current US administration are in favor of continuing the war. The Prime Minister has written to EU leaders about the negotiations, the result of the first phase of the peacekeeping mission and the Hungarian proposals. If Europe wants peace and wants to have a decisive voice in resolving the war and ending the bloodshed, it must now design and implement a change of direction,” he said. Orban also believes that Hungary’s role as a mediator should not be underestimated, as he believes that the country can play “a crucial role in mediation”. We shall remind you that Orban visited Kyiv, Moscow and Beijing, where he allegedly discussed “peace initiatives” to end the war in Ukraine.
