The billions will be allocated to Ukraine as part of the commitments of the G7 countries, Ursula von der Leyen explained.
The EU will provide Ukraine with a loan of up to 35bn euros. This was announced by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on social network X on Friday, 20 September.
According to her, the fact that Russian attacks do not stop shows that Ukraine needs constant support from the EU.
“The European Commission will provide Ukraine with a loan of up to 35 billion euros as part of the G7 commitments. This is another significant EU contribution to Ukraine’s recovery,” von der Leyen wrote.
Earlier, the mass media reported that the EU plans to secure a loan of up to 40bn euros for Ukraine by the end of 2024 regardless of the US involvement.
We shall remind you that in June, the G7 leaders agreed on 50bn dollars for Ukraine, which were to be allocated as a loan and repaid from the profits from the investment of frozen Russian assets. However, after that, the EU and the USA disagreed over the details.
