Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov, commenting on the presidential election in Moldova, said that Maia Sandu could not be called president because many citizens had not voted for her.
Peskov said hundreds of thousands of Moldovan citizens who lived in Russia had been denied the opportunity to vote in the election, unlike those who lived in the EU, gazeta.ru reports.
Peskov said that the Moldovan election had been neither democratic nor fair, it had been full of electoral manipulations.
‘As for Sandu, she is not the president of her country because in the country many people did not vote for her. As for the current Moldovan leadership, so far, they have not shown any interest in developing good relations with our country,’ the Russian presidential spokesman said.
According to Peskov, a large part of Transnistrian residents couldn’t cast their ballot during the election.
‘We see the lack of a constructive approach in Chisinau to this problem <...> We state that Transnistrian residents are not inclined to support the Moldovan authorities,’ Peskov shared.
