There is a real risk that after the parliamentary elections the situation in Moldova may become similar to the situation in Georgia.
Tudor Ulianovschi, vice chairman of the PSDE, said this on the air of the Rezoomat programme on the RliveTV TV channel. According to the politician, the future legislative body should include pro-European forces, which will prevent the creation of a left-wing parliamentary majority. Tudor Ulianovschi says that the absence of a pro-European coalition in the next legislative body may suspend the European vector of development, ipn.md reports.
The PSDE vice-president believes that the results of the presidential elections and the referendum held on 20 October show that the electorate has lost confidence in the ruling party. Tudor Ulianovschi says that the PAS will no longer have a majority in the next Parliament and that the risk of creating a left-wing coalition hostile to the country’s European course is extremely high.
“It is clear that the PAS will not have a majority in the next Parliament, it is a fait accompli, it is an axiom. It is urgent to create conditions for other pro-European parties, such as the PSDE, to reach out to people, to communicate with them, and not to create artificial obstacles for them. The aim is simple to get into Parliament an alternative to the PAS, which wants European integration, but on the basis of a professional government. If the elections are to hold tomorrow, there is a real risk of creating a situation similar to the one in Georgia, where the president declares pro-European views, but anti-Europeans entered Parliament. Strategically, this risk must be urgently avoided, and I will bring this to the attention of Bucharest, Brussels, Berlin and Washington. They have already seen the risk. In a parliamentary republic like Moldova, the real pro-European vector is the parliamentary elections,” PSDE vice chairman Tudor Ulianovschi said.
According to the politician, the PSDE, the party he recently joined, has the potential to become an alternative force to the current PAS government. The new PSDE vice-chair does not rule out the possibility of taking over the leadership of the party and says the decision will be made by party members.
“Any party is a living organism. This decision will be taken collegially. Any party has a National Political Bureau, a National Political Council, a party congress, what the extended leadership of the party decides, that is what will happen. This party is a force to go to Parliament, even if it seems that this party is in a latent state. But this party has enormous potential. After discussions with the chairman of the party, Ion Sula, I decided to join this party. All representatives of this party voted unanimously supported me for the post of vice-chairman, and members of my team agreed to take this step to bring a new breath to the PSDE,” Tudor Ulianovschi said.
Tudor Ulianovschi ran in the 20 October presidential election, winning 0.5% of the vote. On 7 November, he joined the European Social Democratic Party (PSDE) led by Ion Sula, becoming the party’s vice-chairman.
