Head of State Maia Sandu is waiting for representatives of the country’s political parties at the presidency on Monday, 18 November.
The justice reform and anti-corruption are on the agenda of the president’s talks with politicians. The presidential cabinet head, Adrian Băluțel announced this. He did not specify whether opposition politicians were also summoned, tv8.md reports.
The meeting between President Maia Sandu and political parties’ representatives was supposed to take place on Thursday, 14 November, but it was postponed to Monday due to requests from certain political entities’ representatives.
On 11 November, after a meeting of the Supreme Security Council, Maia Sandu said that ‘the state should be more active in fighting political corruption’. Thus, the government, parliament and other institutions should develop a specific plan to ensure that the cases, especially those concerning vote-buying, are prioritized.
‘I saw how criminal groups tried to replace the citizens will and influence important decisions by buying votes. We discussed with the justice authorities the fact that this criminal group had been engaged in political corruption not since today and not since yesterday. (...) We have not seen any decisive, sufficient action of the law enforcement agencies. (...)’, Sandu said, emphasizing that legislative changes are needed.
