Moldova’s Exports Collapse by 13.2% in the 9 Months of 2024
According to data published by the National Bureau of Statistics, Moldova’s merchandise exports from January to September 2024 totaled $2,618.8 million, 13.2% less than in the same period of 2023.
Exports of domestic goods totaled US$1,981.0 million (75.6% of the total), down 4.3% year-on-year, contributing to a 3.0% decline in the total value of exports, bani.md reported.
On the contrary, re-exports of foreign goods, both classic and processed, decreased by 32.6%, reaching US$637.8 million (24.4% of the total). This decline led to a 10.2% decrease in the total value of exports.
The main destinations of Moldova’s exports were Romania (32.2% of the total), Ukraine (9.3%), Italy (7.0%), Czech Republic and Turkey (5.6% each), followed by Germany (5.1%) and Poland (4.4%). Together, these countries received 86.9% of Moldova’s total exports.
The following groups of goods had a significant weight in the structure of exports in January-September 2024: machinery and electrical appliances and their parts (16.8% of total exports); vegetables and fruits (11.4%); cereals and cereal-based products (10.1%); seeds and oilseed fruits (8.3%); clothing and accessories (7.6%); alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages (6.6%); furniture and its parts (3.9%); crude, refined or fractionated vegetable fats and oils (3.7%); petroleum, petroleum products and related goods (3.7%); non-metallic mineral products (2.6%); yarn, fabrics, textiles and related products (1.9%); industrial machinery and equipment (1.9%).
