Prime Minister Dorin Recean said the government is forming a team of international lawyers “to assist the authorities in recovering energy assets seized by Russia”. Asked about the possibility of following a path similar to the example of the Ukrainian company Naftogaz, which won an international arbitration against Gazprom on the basis of a similar audit, Recean emphasized that the government is considering all available legal options, bani.md reports. “We are talking about the return of Moldova’s assets that were seized, including fraudulently, from various sectors, especially from the energy one. These include Moldovagaz and the Cuciurgan power plant, assets that were seized by Russia,” the prime minister said. Recean stated that Moldovan authorities are searching for potential legal advisors to support the government in this endeavor. The return of energy assets is considered a national priority given its significant impact on Moldova’s energy security. The government noted that it will, where possible, follow a process similar to that of Ukraine to recover national assets and ensure that the interests of the Moldovan state are protected internationally.
