The Bashkan of the Gagauz autonomy, Evghenia Gutul, has appealed to US President Donald Trump to stop providing financial aid to the Moldovan authorities and to support fair parliamentary elections in the republic.
In her opinion, this money “goes for propaganda, bribery and even persecution of Orthodox Christians”, rupor.md reported.
“Dear Mr Trump, as the Bashkan of Gagauzia, I ask you to stop any support for the criminal regime of PAS and Maia Sandu in the Republic of Moldova,” Gutul wrote on social network X.
In her post, she attached an open letter to the US president, in which she urged him to stop funding the Moldovan government and support fair parliamentary elections to be held this year. According to Gutul, Sandu and her team “have effectively usurped all state institutions in the country and established an authoritarian regime.”
“The financial assistance provided by the American people for the implementation of important projects in Moldova is being plundered. The government exploits these funds to finance propaganda, to bribe European and American politicians, and to persecute our Christian Orthodox Church. They are arresting our politicians and trying to provoke armed riots in order to realize a scenario similar to the Ukrainian one and to receive unlimited funding from Europe and the USA,” Gutul notes.
She also pointed out that official Chisinau deprived the autonomy of all its constitutional rights, deliberately creating an unstable situation in Gagauzia. Gutul considers this “not just a threat to democracy, but political terrorism”.
