Home / Society / Varnita and Copanca May Receive Electricity from the Right Bank: Local Opinion Is Divided
The constructed electricity networks are energized and fully operational. The conditions for their use are to be agreed with the grid operator serving both villages and approved by the authorities. Opinions of local residents are divided. While some say they do not want to connect to the new networks, others say they would like the two banks to be united, Moldova1 reported. When asked where they would like to get their electricity from, the residents of Varnita said that they were most interested in the cost. “I would like from the Transnistrian region because it’s cheaper there.” “I don't care where they deliver from, it’s the electricity that matters.” “It’s important to have light and warmth, no matter where it comes from.” Some argue that by connecting to the power grid on the right bank, the locality will completely reject the propaganda of the Tiraspol authorities. “They feed people with propaganda, what can you do if you are persuaded that this is the way it should be. Change is needed;” “I would like it to be like in Moldova, that's all. To be owners at home,” people say. In the direction of Varnita, a medium-voltage transmission line with a length of about 8 km was built and a 10/6 kV coupling transformer was installed. A section of 10 kV overhead power line with a length of about 1 km was constructed towards Copanca village. Recall that at the height of the energy crisis that broke out in Transnistria due to the cessation of natural gas supplies by Gazprom, the Commission for Emergency Situations decided to connect two settlements to the electricity network on the right bank of the Dniester and 14 settlements in the Security Zone to the networks managed by Moldovagaz.
