Nearly 80% of the total volume of oil products supplied to Moldova last year, namely 748,000 tonnes out of 948,000 tonnes, were imported from Romania. In case of petrol, this indicator is almost 100%. This is shown in the profit.ro analysis. All companies owning refineries in Romania are present on the Moldovan market: OMV Petrom (Petrobrazi), Rompetrol (Petromidia) and Lukoil (Petrotel). The high share of petrol imports (99.1%) because Romania is a petrol net exporter (and a diesel net importer), with production exceeding domestic consumption. In 2024, Romania was the main supplier of oil products for Moldova, providing 99.1% of gasoline imports (194,000 tons), 74.1% of diesel imports (515,000 tons) and 69.0% of liquefied gas imports (39,000 tons). Besides, diesel fuel was imported to Moldova from Egypt (7.7%), UAE (6.9%), Turkey (4.5%), Bulgaria (4.4%) and India (1.2%). Minor volumes were supplied by Greece, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Israel and other countries, together accounting for 1.3 per cent of imports. As for the LPG imports to Moldova, the leader is also Romania (69.0 %), followed by Russia (5.7 %), Egypt (5.5 %), Algeria (5.3 %), Latvia (5.1 %), Kazakhstan (3.0 %), USA (2.6 %), Poland (1.7 %), Italy (0.8 %) and other countries, which account for 1.2 %. Thus, the Republic of Moldova remains fully reliant on the import of oil products.
