The average-weighted power purchase price for April is estimated at about 108 euros per MWh, which is about 37 euros less than the current value reflected in the tariff, according to Energocom Council member Alexandru Slusari. Slusari emphasizes that Energocom is making significant efforts to ensure uninterrupted and competitive electricity supplies, which may allow reducing tariffs for consumers, reports bani.md. At the same time, he criticizes the government’s actions, noting that on 16 January, the Commission for Emergency Situations decided to turn to European civil protection mechanisms, requesting international assistance to install 10 small power plants and one large gas turbine plant. According to Slusari, the 10 small power plants could have been put into operation as early as this summer and would have covered about 20% of the average daily electricity consumption. However, according to Slusari, the government has abandoned the initiative, preferring to use the financial resources offered by the European Union “solely for populist compensation, neglecting investments in sustainable energy infrastructure.” In this regard, Slusari warns of possible electricity shortages from the second half of May, caused by increased consumption amid high temperatures and the difficult situation in the region caused by the war in Ukraine. He expresses concern that the authorities may be forced to either revert to “troublesome” contracts with the Transnistrian power plant (Cuciurgan power plant) or again request EU financial support for additional compensation, which could have serious political implications in the pre-election context.
