The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has decided to redirect key components of an anti-drone system – originally intended for Ukraine – to support American armed forces instead.
This was reported by The Wall Street Journal, citing informed sources within U.S. defense circles.
Journalists noted that the decision signals a reduced prioritization of Ukraine’s defense by the Pentagon amid rising tensions in the Middle East.
According to the publication, last week the Pentagon informed Congress that special detonators for missiles used by Ukraine to destroy Russian drones will now be supplied to U.S. Air Force units stationed in the Middle East.
The components in question are part of the Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS), which the United States has been providing to Ukraine in recent years. The system’s primary function is intercepting drones using precision-guided rockets equipped with a proximity fuse, which detonates the explosive charge when the missile nears the drone.
