The United States does not currently have any specific policy towards Moldova. They do not have enough resources to focus on our country, and they do not understand what to do with the “groups” from the European Union that have now taken their place here and control everything. This opinion was expressed by security expert and former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Valeriu Ostalep on the talk show “No Ties with Alexander Stakhursky” on N4 television, according to Noi.md. The expert recalled that he had publicly criticized the United States’ interference in Moldova’s internal politics for many years. In his opinion, Donald Trump has his own perspective and vision after coming to power, but he lacks resources because the United States is represented in various parts of the world by individuals from a specific team that has been in place for 10 years. Ostalep recalled that former US Ambassador to Moldova Dereck Hogan, who subsequently served as Senior Deputy Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs and, since August 2023, as Executive Secretary of the US State Department, had been dismissed. The expert believes that the US currently lacks the resources to focus on Moldova, and that we will soon lose the US representative, Kelly Keiderling, head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova, who will soon leave our country. “As we can see, the US is not yet in a position to even appoint an ambassador to Moldova. Probably, they have other things to worry about right now, especially after such a failure of their interests in Romania. We understand that Moldova is currently far from the capabilities of, say, the US. In addition, along with USAID, I think they have no policy towards us. Furthermore, they do not understand what to do with these “groups” from the European Union that control everything here. Then they also need to decide how they coexist, what they are doing in this regard. In other words, I think that the United States does not have any specific policy towards Moldova,” Valeriu Ostalep emphasized.
