While the revocation of Moldovagaz’s licence to supply natural gas doesn’t spell the end for the company, it will trigger substantial restructuring due to the loss of its main source of income. This was stated by former Energy Minister Victor Parlicov on TV8. The expert explained that the company, being a subsidiary of Gazprom, is itself the parent company of numerous other enterprises in the Republic of Moldova. The revocation of its license will not affect their operations, and it will still be possible to generate income from their activities. According to Parlicov, many of these companies have autonomous status, yet they remain under the control of Moldovagaz. “Moldovagaz still remains a company where the resources of other entities are consolidated. Their main activity as a market participant was gas supply, but that doesn’t prevent them from continuing as a company that retains a managing role over other assets,” the former minister noted. He added that local employees – such as dispatchers and accountants who issue bills and record meter readings – will continue to perform their duties within Moldovagaz for the time being. Meanwhile, Energocom, which has become the country’s main gas supplier, will temporarily contract their services. Gradually, both the specialists and the consumer database will be fully transferred to the state-owned company.
