Home / Economy / €4.2 Million Investment Needed to Develop Marculesti Airport
The international free airport in Marculesti will be transferred to the management of the Chisinau International Airport State Enterprise and will be modernized.
According to preliminary estimates, in order for the airport in Marculesti to be able to handle passenger flights, investments of €4.2 million are needed, reports zdg.md.
Members of the parliamentary committee on economics, budget and finance reviewed a bill that defines the direction of development for the airport in Marculesti and aims to “create optimal conditions for diversifying the airport’s infrastructure” so that it can handle both cargo and passenger flights.
The project provides for the transfer of the airport in Marculesti to the management of the Chisinau International Airport State Enterprise. According to the authors of the legislative initiative, this will allow for “more effective coordination of activities and investments in the modernization of the airport’s infrastructure”.
The airport in Marculesti is located 150 kilometers from Chisinau, and its runway has a higher capacity than that of Chisinau Airport, allowing for the operation of larger aircraft. Currently, its economic activities include providing airport operator services by charging airport fees and renting out company assets (land, hangars, and other premises).
