The next parliament could become a pro-European one, marking a historic milestone comparable to the Parliament of Independence in 1991, said President Maia Sandu in an interview with NordNews.
The head of state warned that as the elections approach, Kremlin representatives are becoming more active in the public sphere, and there is a real risk that these elections will be negatively influenced by propaganda and dirty money from abroad. According to Maia Sandu, Moscow is stepping up its efforts to manipulate, misinform and corrupt the electoral process in an attempt to divert the country from its pro-European course, reports radiomoldova.md.
“In the past, the Kremlin has managed to manipulate certain people, buy votes and use disinformation. Now it wants to do the same thing. We want Moldovans to make decisions for the Republic of Moldova, not under the influence of dirty money coming from abroad, not under the influence of propaganda. It is important for all of us to remain a peaceful, free country where people are not afraid to express their opinions. Voting now will affect our lives and the development of the country not only for the next four years, but for decades to come,” she claimed.
In the face of these dangers, the head of state calls for vigilance and responsibility. She urges citizens not to succumb to the influence of lies and foreign interests and to vote for the good of the country.
Maia Sandu acknowledges that, although state institutions have learned from past mistakes, risks remain. That is why it is important for citizens to be aware, reject manipulation and not sell their votes.
“We must fight fraud, tell the truth and encourage mass participation in voting both in the country and in the diaspora,” the head of state said.
