According to the Ministry of Finance, in May 2025, the state budget deficit increased sharply by more than 2.9 billion lei, exceeding the level of 6.83 billion lei for the first five months of 2025. Thus, in the first five months of 2025, total state budget revenues amounted to 29.52 billion lei (an increase of approximately 3.85 billion lei compared to the first five months of 2024, +15%), including: total and collected revenues – 29.31 billion lei; revenues from projects financed from external sources – 209.2 million lei, notes noi.md with reference to Mold-street. The main source of revenue for the state budget is value added tax (VAT), which accounted for almost 50% of all revenue and increased by 13.4% compared to the same period last year. Income tax ranks second, followed by excise duties and external grants. At the same time, non-financial expenditures and assets of the state budget amounted to 36.35 billion lei, an increase of 19.2% (5.86 billion lei) compared to the same period in 2024. At the same time, the bulk of the expenditure consisted of transfers to other budgets – more than 21 billion lei, which is 21.6% (more than 3.7 billion lei) more than in the first five months of 2024.
