On August 18, 2025, the Administrative Council of the National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE) designated S.A. Moldovagaz as the responsible gas supplier for the Transnistrian region for the period from September 1, 2025 to March 31, 2026. “The decision comes in the context of the upcoming expiration of S.A. Moldovagaz’s supply license on September 1 and is intended as a temporary, transitional measure. It was proposed by the Ministry of Energy in accordance with national legislation and coordinated with the Bureau for Reintegration Policy. The move aims to ensure uninterrupted gas supply to consumers in the Transnistrian region during the critical cold season.” The appointment grants S.A. Moldovagaz the right to continue purchasing natural gas on Moldova’s wholesale market, including via the platform operated by Bursa Română de Mărfuri Est S.R.L., exclusively for the needs of the Transnistrian region. At the same time, the company is obliged to secure sufficient gas reserves to cover at least 15% of the region’s average annual consumption by households and enterprises/institutions providing basic social services in the region:
  • by September 30 – at least 50%;
  • by October 31– 100%.
The National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE) will closely monitor Moldovagaz’s compliance with its obligations as the designated supplier. Should any violations occur, ANRE has the authority to impose sanctions or revoke Moldovagaz’s status, subject to recommendations from the Ministry of Energy.
