Home / Economy / Moldova Abandons Gas Storage: Purchases Only with Scheduled Delivery
The Deputy Director of Energocom, Eugeniu Buzatu, stated that the company is no longer building natural gas reserves and is switching to purchases with scheduled delivery, mainly for December and January.
“We are making purchases with physical delivery on schedule and no longer storing gas. The routes have become more expensive, and there is no longer the same profitability,” Buzatu explained, according to bani.md.
At the same time, Energocom is legally required to maintain reserve stocks of about 15% of consumption, which amounts to approximately 150 million cubic meters of gas to be used during peak periods.
“We have more than 30 contracts with traders,” the official clarified.
He added that scheduled deliveries are made at the border with the Republic of Moldova, from where Energocom receives the gas directly, and that the purchases are financed, in part, with funds from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
“Payment is made at the time of delivery, at the border,” Buzatu emphasized.
