Romanian Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan held discussions with representatives of the EBRD.
Romanian Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan discussed with a delegation of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) the issue of the Giurgiulesti Port of the Republic of Moldova, which is in the process of being acquired by an international investor, reports moldpres.md.
According to the press release of the Romanian government, Romania is showing interest in this initiative for the purpose of regional development.
“The Romanian side expressed its interest in participating in this initiative together with the Republic of Moldova, pursuing a common goal – supporting regional development and strengthening connections on the Danube and the Black Sea,” the press release states.
In mid-April, the EBRD, owner of the Giurgiulesti International Free Port, launched an international tender to identify potential investors who could further support the development of the Republic of Moldova’s main sea and river port.
Subsequently, the EBRD announced that it had received several proposals from regional and international investors to acquire the port and is negotiating with the selected candidates.
In mid-July, the Council for the Review of Investments of Strategic Importance to National Security approved the application of the National Company JSC “Maritime Ports Administration” (Constanta, Romania) to acquire Danube Logistics, the operator of the Giurgiulesti International Free Port.
