The sanctions imposed by the United States against Russian oil companies Lukoil and Rosneft quickly affected the fuel market in the Republic of Moldova.
The day after Washington’s announcement, petrol and diesel prices began to rise, recording the sharpest increase in recent months, according to bani.md.
On 24 October, petrol rose by 4 ban, reaching 22.48 lei per liter, and diesel rose by 6 ban, reaching 19.26 lei.
The increase continued in the following days. According to data from the National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE), by 3 November, petrol had risen in price by a total of 38 ban, to 22.86 lei per liter, and diesel by 83 ban, to 20.09 lei per liter.
The price increase comes amid tensions in the global oil market after Washington expanded energy sanctions against Russia, affecting exports and foreign subsidiaries of the country’s two largest oil companies.
Lukoil holds approximately 50% of the diesel fuel market and more than 30% of the petrol market in Moldova.
