Workers in Moldova earn half as much as employees in Bulgaria, the European Union country with the lowest wages. Furthermore, compared to wages in Luxembourg, which has the highest income in the EU, Moldovans earn ten times less, according to radiomoldova.md. According to Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union, the average salary in Luxembourg in 2024 was €6,914 per month, or almost €83,000 per year. Bulgaria ranks last in the EU in terms of wages, with an average monthly income of €1,283. According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, the average salary in Moldova in 2024 was 13,990 lei, or about €682. In the second quarter of this year, the average monthly salary rose to 15,470 lei, or approximately €788. In the European Union, the average annual salary for full-time workers in 2024 was €39,800, which is 5.2% more than the €37,800 in 2023. Among the EU countries with the highest incomes, Denmark stands out with €5,966 per month or €71,600 per year, and Ireland with €61,100 in 2024. The last five countries in the ranking are Romania, where the average salary for full-time employees is around €1,800 per month, followed by Slovakia with €1,690, Hungary with €1,541, Greece with €1,500 and Bulgaria with €1,283.
