Home / World / EU Energy Commissioner: The Era of Russian Gas and Oil in Europe Is Over
Europe will never return to Russian energy sources after the war in Ukraine, Energy Commissioner Dan Jørgensen said in an interview with Euronews’ morning show Europe Today.
According to him, a new law banning Russian oil is currently being drafted and will be presented in the near future, reports euronews.com.
Jørgensen called the ban on Russian pipeline gas and LNG a “point of no return” for the EU:
“Even when peace comes, we will no longer buy Russian gas. The agreement will remain in force even after a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine”.
“We must not repeat the mistake of becoming dependent on Russian gas again,” he added, recalling the surge in energy prices that shook the European economy after February 2022.
The Danish politician expressed regret over Hungary’s reaction: Budapest has stated that it will challenge the European Commission’s proposal.
