Home / Economy / Energocom to Continue Centralized Electricity Procurement Until the End of 2026
Moldova may continue to receive electricity through direct state participation for another year.
A draft government resolution prepared by the Ministry of Energy provides for the extension of Energocom’s mandate for centralized electricity procurement until 31 December 2026, according to bani.md.
The agency explains that the extension is necessary to prevent the risk of supply disruptions and sharp price increases. Organized tenders for energy procurement for 2026 have been cancelled: some suppliers did not offer sufficient volumes, while others offered too high prices.
The explanatory note emphasizes that Moldova is heavily dependent on imports, and supplies from Ukraine have become unstable due to attacks on energy infrastructure. In addition, fewer regional companies are willing to enter into long-term contracts for supplies to the Republic of Moldova.
The Ministry notes that refraining from state intervention and returning to standard tenders amid regional instability, limited cross-border capacity and the lack of direct import licenses for some suppliers could lead to a “severe energy crisis”.
The extension of its powers will enable Energocom to enter into long-term contracts, including agreements with local renewable energy producers, which will contribute to the diversification of resources and reduce dependence on imports.
The authorities believe that the measure provides predictability for consumers, businesses and government agencies, protecting the economy from price hikes.
