The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry reports that, at this stage, no embargo on wines from the Republic of Moldova is being applied in the Ukrainian market, despite media reports. The institution clarifies that the discussions of recent days are only about technical consultations between the authorities and do not constitute an actual export ban or the imposition of trade sanctions, according to bani.md. “These technical discussions are not equivalent to imposing trade restrictions,” the ministry emphasizes. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the Moldovan authorities are in constant contact with the competent institutions of Ukraine, and the dialogue continues in a constructive manner to prevent possible measures that could affect domestic producers or bilateral trade relations. The Ministry also reports that it has not received any official notifications from Kyiv about possible restrictions on the import of wines or other wine-related products from Moldova. On February 26, the Kyiv authorities issued a warning stating that a draft decree had already been developed that could introduce a licensing regime for the import of wine products from Moldova, including grapes, wines, and distillates, until the end of actions that are considered discriminatory against Ukraine. According to the project’s information note, the measure is a response to ANSA Order No. 48 of January 26, 2026, which temporarily suspended the import of poultry and poultry products from Ukraine after the discovery of the antibiotic metronidazole in Ukrainian feed. Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Taras Kachka previously informed Chisinau about Kyiv’s intention to restrict the import of Moldovan wines as a reciprocal measure. At the same time, the Ministry of Agriculture in Chisinau assures that it is monitoring the situation and will inform the public transparently when significant changes occur. Statistics show that Moldova’s wine exports to Ukraine amount to around $2.5 million.
