Ukraine Seeks to Expand Transit Through Moldova

Ukraine is looking to expand logistical opportunities for the transit of Ukrainian imports and exports through Moldova. The issue was discussed by Ukrainian Ambassador to Moldova Paun Rohovei and Moldovan Prime Minister Vasile Tofan, the Ukrainian side said. Tofan and Rohovei discussed improving mechanisms to ensure uninterrupted supplies of essential goods to the Ukrainian market amid continued Russian attacks on Ukraine’s logistics infrastructure, logos-pres.md reports. The officials also discussed the development of cross-border cooperation and the introduction of joint controls at border crossing points along the shared border. According to the Ukrainian side, the initiative would improve the efficiency of border procedures and ensure the uninterrupted movement of people and goods. Energy security and the implementation of joint projects in the sector were also discussed during the meeting. Issues related to operations at the Ukrainian-Moldovan border were also addressed during Paun Rohovei’s meeting with Moldova’s Interior Minister Daniella Misail-Nichitin. Particular attention was paid to prospects for streamlining controls at border crossing points and strengthening interagency cooperation in order to develop practical steps toward further facilitating and speeding up the movement of people, goods and vehicles across the Ukrainian-Moldovan border.
