Sandu: When Gas Prices Rise on the Market, Tariffs Rise Too

President Maia Sandu said she could not predict whether the gas tariff would be increased, noting that it depends on the purchase price and requests submitted by suppliers to ANRE. The head of state made the statement after a meeting of the National Security Council, unimedia.info reports. “The tariff is determined by the purchase price. If the price needs to be adjusted, in this case increased, suppliers submit a corresponding request to ANRE. If there are sufficient grounds, the tariff is changed. I do not make such forecasts. I am concerned that tariffs are high, and I am concerned that prices continue to rise. The price of gas is already high, but everything must be done as provided by law. We cannot influence these prices: when they rise on the market, tariffs rise as well; when they fall, tariffs fall,” Maia Sandu said. The day before, the president called for a state of emergency to be declared in the energy and hydrological sectors amid the worsening situation in these areas. “We must be prepared for any scenario. The mobilization of all institutions is crucial: the economy and citizens must have an uninterrupted supply of energy resources,” the head of state said.
