The government has prepared Moldova’s Energy Strategy for 2026-2050. “The Energy Strategy of the Republic of Moldova for 2026-2050 has been developed as an integral part of the national strategic planning framework, with the aim of supporting Moldova’s economic and social modernization. The strategy takes into account the country’s strategic objectives and economic growth targets, as well as the goals, indicators and tasks arising from Moldova’s international commitments,” the document says, as cited by logos-pres.md. Achieving the strategy’s objectives by 2050 will require total investment of around €43 billion, or 864 billion lei. At the same time, given inflation over the next 24 years, the nominal value of these investments could exceed one trillion lei. Even assuming stable long-term inflation of 5% per year, the nominal cost of the investments in lei by 2050 would not merely exceed the trillion-lei threshold, but surpass it significantly. If the €43 billion investment requirement is spread evenly over 24 years, Moldova would need to attract an average of around €1.8 billion annually.
