The Court of Accounts presented the results of its audit of the Ministry of Defense’s 2025 financial statements. The inspection revealed a number of problems in the accounting and management of state property, as well as in the internal control system. In particular, the ministry failed to fully record in its accounts property transferred to two state-owned enterprises. The discrepancy amounted to at least 32.8 million lei. In addition, four facilities worth 30.3 million lei, which are national monuments listed in the State Register of Protected Monuments, were recorded as ordinary buildings. Depreciation of 10.2 million lei was also incorrectly charged on them, logos-press.md reports. The audit also identified problems with capital repairs: works worth 53.5 million lei continued to be listed on the ministry’s balance sheet even though the buildings were managed by other subordinate institutions. Other violations concerned the recovery of education and training costs from students and military personnel who had been expelled or dismissed from service. At the end of 2025, the outstanding debt amounted to 1.89 million lei, while another 15.7 million lei was subject to compulsory recovery from 134 individuals. The Court of Accounts also pointed to shortcomings in the management of official housing, fuel accounting, internal controls and the ministry’s internal audit operations. Following the inspection, the Court of Accounts recommended that the ministry address the identified violations and strengthen financial oversight and the system for accounting for state property.
